An Etlan winery is continuing its commitment to environmental stewardship through seeds and plantings.
DuCard Vineyards has a long history of focusing on environmental leadership and sustainability. The winery has been recognized as the “Greenest Winery in Virginia” by Virginia Green. DuCard’s sustainable practices include solar panels, electric car charging stations, reclaimed wood, corn starch cups, lightweight wine bottles and cork recycling. The winery, which borders Shenandoah National Park, also has a partnership with the Shenandoah National Park Trust which includes the development and sale of wines Shenandoah and Black Bear which provide donations to the trust for every bottle sold.
Now, the winery is continuing its commitment by giving away packets of seeds for at-home planting with every tasting room purchase. The program continues while supplies last.

“DuCard hopes to encourage our guests to carry the natural beauty of our winery and the surrounding area to their own homes and to remind them to celebrate and protect our environment for ourselves and generations to come,” DuCard Director of Customer Experience and Marketing Beth Wilson said.
In September, the winery will continue its “Sipping for Saplings” initiative in partnership with Friends of the Rappahannock. Each guest who purchases a take-home bottle of wine will receive a sapling to plant. To date, DuCard has enabled the planting of more than 2,000 trees.
“These continuing programs at DuCard are consistent with our environmental commitment and leadership,” DuCard Vineyards Founder and President Scott Elliff said.”Our philosophy of sustainability exists because our business is based in nature, so we feel a responsibility to be good stewards of our land and our surrounding environment.”
