Madison County’s softball team played April 4 in a game many thought would be cancelled. However, with this long-running rivalry, the Lady Mountaineers had some revenge for the Lady Panthers. After losing to Page County 8-0 the previous Friday and a whole week of practice to prepare, Coach BJ Scott’s squad was ready to take on Page County, which it defeated 4-1.
The Lady Mountaineers took advantage of the second inning scoring there first runs of the game. Freshman standout pitcher Jordan Aylor stepped up and made her presence known on the mound only allowing five hits and striking out five batters. Sarah Ford had two hits and 2 RBIs and Tiffany Geer had two hits and one RBI.
Additionally, Cara McCurry had a single with an RBI.
Page County’s only run came from a homerun by its catcher.
Freshman Megan Clark stayed busy at second base all evening. Clark was the successful catcher of numerous pop-ups and is really starting to show her talent at just the right time in the season.
Junior Becca Ryder was also kept busy in rightfield—she was the successful catcher of many hard-hit balls. Ryder is starting to show her versatility in the outfield before district play.
The Lady Mountaineers played Monday at Luray and Wednesday at Greene County’s William Monroe (results were unavailable at press time).
Madison opened up its Bull Run District season 5 p.m. April 11 in Rappahannock County.
The Mountaineer girls will be back at home 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 when they host against George Mason at the Waverly Yowell Elementary School field.
