The Madison County boys track team had two matches last week that both ended in results that the Mountaineers had hoped for.
The first match was a district win over George Mason. Madison was able to annihilate the Mustangs, winning by a score of 106-20.

There were many competitors who placed first in the match. Brandon Thompson led them all off by getting first place in the shot put. Demetrick Johnson got a first place in the 100-meter dash. Johnson also got second in both the shot put and 200 meter. LJ Blakey also placed first in the discus. Ryan Banks got first place awards in the 400 meter and high jump. Daniel Orange got a first place in the 300-meter hurdles and Joe Heller got a first in the 1,600 meter. Jonathan Cordova got two first place awards in both the triple jump and 800-meter dashes. Cordova and Heller also got second place awards in other events.

“It was a pretty good meet,” said Madison Coach Moe Weaver. “I feel that our team bounced back from the big loss at Manassas Park last week. I feel that they stepped it up a notch. We still have a lot of improving to do, as we are capable of much improvement.”

The next match was an invitational at Fluvanna County. This match was mainly against double-A and triple-A schools including Orange County and Culpeper County. Madison had a number of competitors hit a personal record mark. In the 800-meter dash, Cordova hit a personal best of 2:17.36 and Bryan Woodward hit a best of 2:24.63. Cordova also got a best in the 400 meter with a time of 56.93.

In the 3,200-meter dash, Heller and Hunter Welch each hit personal bests of 11:33.81 and 12:02.24 respectively. In the discus, LJ Blakey got a personal best of 107 feet, 5 inches.

Finally, Ryan Banks hit a personal best and a regional birth with a 23.35 time in the 200-meter dash.

The final regular season meet was Wednesday (results were unavailable at press time). District playoffs start with a 3 p.m. May 14 meet at Manassas Park.
