The citizens of Madison County recently received their 2008 real estate and personal property tax bills. My tax bills were received in two separate envelopes – one for real estate and one for personal property.
I have talked to several people who stated that they also received three, four or even five separate envelopes. The postage on each of these envelopes was $0.351, having been mailed from zip code 24015 which, according to the zip code directory, is one in Roanoke.
My point is simple. Why was postage wasted on multiple envelopes for tax bills to the same address when all these bills could have been included in one envelope? Simply put – this is a waste of taxpayer money.
Also, why are we paying extravagant salaries to county employees to out-source billings for tax bills and other bills? The board of supervisors should be accountable for wasteful spending.
