Supervisors should listen to residents

Editor:

A few months ago I wrote a letter to the editor pointing out the ridiculous taxes and expenditures we now pay on behalf of Madison County. Since then I have seen numerous letters saying the same thing. In summary, Madison County is not spending or collecting money in a manner that is consistent with what Madison County residents think is appropriate.

Because of this obvious problem, I am asking today for anyone’s suggestions as to what can be done to remedy this. Letters to the editor in The Eagle, though giving us a good way to vent frustration, do not seem to be doing anything but blowing hot air in county officials’ faces.

So, can someone please tell me what Madison residents can do to stop this mockery of what the supervisors were elected to do in the first place?

Now maybe I am naive, but I thought the supervisors were elected to represent the people of Madison — not do whatever they may please. Maybe that is why the schools are not being properly funded — because the supervisors want ignorant citizens who will not question their actions.

I suppose we will have to wait for the next election, then boot them all out. When is that election again?
