letter to the editor

The March 20 issue of The Madison County Eagle had two articles and one letter to the editor that I thought brought together all of the problems we will be facing in the “now” immediate future. The two articles were, “Where will county get the money?” “Apartment complex plan draws fire,” and the letter to the editor was “Is Madison County government a ‘joke’?”
It just keeps coming back to taxes doesn’t it? It just keeps coming back to how large a local government do you, the citizens and taxpayers, want? If you have county workers keeping tabs on whether a dog owner is current on his licenses, and then gets a personal visit, then I’m thinking local government is already too big. When elected officials “pooh pooh” homeowners concerns about growth – for example apartments — then maybe local government is already too big.
And finally, just where does Madison County get the money the board of supervisors, the school system and the sheriff’s department desire — not merely need?
We know the answer to that question, don’t we?
