As I write you, still filled with Mountaineer Pride, I think, wow, what an amazing year. It has been a true pleasure for our family not just to attend the games, but to see our young athletes develop in to young men. The handshakes, the smiles and the thanks for coming to the game are just welcomed and heartfelt when talking with our players.
See, I say our players because they are indeed “Madison’s Team.” I must admit, I have enjoyed the inside view on our players as well. So many days I would just swell up with “Madison Pride” as I walk through the halls of Madison County High School. Seeing our team dressed for the game or in their blue and white warm ups, you knew one thing, it’s game day people, time to fill the house (gym) and cheer on the home team.
I can’t tell you the times that our players have responded to me in such a positive way when I would approach them with a question or if they wanted to know “Mrs. Murray, are you coming to the game tonight.” And you can bet one thing, Mrs. Murray would say, “Yes.” The players always took time to speak, smile or offer a wave. Yes, they are our team.
I beg to differ with the scoreboard on some occasions. See to me, we never really lost a game. “What?” a coach may ask, look at the scoreboard again. Well yes, the score states numbers but I beg to differ. We, Madison County did not lose a game, for we had a group of players that gave us their hearts and souls for many good weeks of basketball.
So for that, Coach Tim Taylor, I beg to differ, we won. Yes, indeed we did! Madison Pride is back and for that “gentleman” we send our sincere thanks. Oh and did I mention – we plan to rock the house next year – 2008-2009 belongs to Mountaineer Country!
