What is happening to America?

I have noticed that foreign car companies have taken over the U.S. auto industry. Yet it was our American auto companies — Chrysler, Ford and General Motors — that helped us win World War II. Each of them stopped production of passenger cars during the war years to build needed implements of war.
For example, Ford built the huge Willow Run plant in Michigan to build B-24 bombers. Lindberg was their test pilot for the B-24s. Many other war implements, including the Jeep, were made by Ford, which made more Jeeps in a day than the other companies did in a week.

Now our three main auto companies are struggling because of the influx of foreign cars. My grandson made the statement, “I thought America won the war, but from the looks of foreign cars everywhere, did we really win?”

On Memorial Day, many who pledged allegiance to our flag drove off in foreign cars. Some of these drivers say, “But it’s made in American factories.” True, but the profit goes out of our country, and our American companies are losing.

You’re kidding, right?  Ford and GM have only themselves to blame for runing their industry into the ground with poor business strategies and hyper-greed.  European, Japanese, and Korean auto manufacturers have consistently engineered better quality, more fuel efficient and safer vehicles for decades - not just my opinion but that of all the very American car mags (Car and Driver, Road and Track, Autoweek, etc.).
