Madison County again demonstrated its superiority over Culpeper and Orange counties, amassing the most points in the Sept. 13 Tri-County Track Meet to retain control of the annual event’s coveted Winner’s Trophy for the third straight year. Competitors from Madison scored a total of 275 points in the all-ages, male and female competition, while Culpeper captured runner-up honors with 220 points. Orange brought up the rear with 143 points. (These totals do not include the field events results, which were unavailable at press time, but not expected to change Madison’s first place.)

Madison’s win came despite its lack of a home-field advantage this year. The 2008 meet was at Culpeper County High School’s Broman Field. Both the 2007 and 2006 meets were at Madison County High School. (Next year’s is tentatively slated to be hosted by Woodberry Forest School.)

This year’s meet featured a record 130 participants – almost twice as many as last year. Participants in the family-friendly meet ranged in age from 4 to 79 and included both boys and girls, and men and women.
